Cuba

Sepi tengah ramai
Cemerlang di pinggir desa
Lenturan hati sejuk beku
Terus mencair tak terkumpulkan

Entah kemana jiwa-jiwa akrab
Sering di picing mata
Tak mendekat setitispun di kalbu.

New Chapter in Life: Pontian

I honestly don't know how to phrase all these.

Ever since I started working in Pontian, I think I've changed a bit. In the aspects that, I have to take care of my grandparents' house now that I live with them, and have to accept their quirks. My grandfather who earns by making tapai ubi and selling them at stalls and bazaar Ramadhan also, unfortunately have to adapt to my own quirks. He's so used to live only with his wife that he do things his way - the messy way. LOL. I lost count of how many times I reminded him to put the Nestum 3-in-1 sachets and Maggi packets in the dustbin, only to find them slotted under the rice cooker, the kettle, and even under his kopiah once. *facepalm* Also to remind him how to use the *newly bought* washing machine (the previous one is a semi auto one, which is at its deathline) to wash my grandma's bed linens - they have to be washed daily to prevent nauseating odour - only finding myself doing it every morning before going to work, cz I want to make sure that everything's in order. I think this slight obsessive trait i possessed will surely kill me sooner or later - not.

I used to only take care of my own affairs. Taking care of someone else- a demented one at that (my grandmother)- sure posed a challenge to me. But I'm willing to take up the challenge cz if I didn't do it, who else? My mom can only afford to come visit once every 3 months roughly, and my nearby aunt just won't care at all. Everytime I ever followed my mom back to Benut, the house is in an unspeakable state. I'm already in a rough patch with one of my uncles who questioned my sincerity when I spoke up about him coming to my grandparents house, saying he wanted to tidy up my grandfather's room only to make the house messier cz he did it halfway. Oh, so he's so sincere, visiting my grandparents once in a blue moon while living in Johor? I just don't know, man.

Anyway...I need to find some sort of energy booster to make time for the house chores, cooking once in a while and studying for MRCPsych. I ask from Allah to guide my journey, and in this holy month, making this slightly easier for me if not for my aching back, for the lightness in my heart.

The smile I get from my grandmother beats all the worries and sorrows in the world.

Salam Ramadhan,
Keon
